มาตรฐานระบบการจัดการและอาชีวอนามัยและความปลอดภัย ฉบับ OHSAS 18001 ได้มีการปรับปรุงและปรับเปลี่ยนเป็น ISO 45001 ซึ่งใช้ระยะเวลาในการดำเนินการกว่า 4 ปี โดยโครงสร้างของมาตรฐานใช้แนวทางการนำมาประยุกต์ตาม high level structure ซึ่งจะเหมือนกับมาตรฐานอื่นๆ เช่น ISO 9001, ISO 14001 เป็นต้น รายละเอียดในตาราง
สำหรับข้อกำหนดของ ISO 45001 ที่มีการเปลี่ยนแปลงไปจาก OHSAS 18001 เช่น ข้อกำหนด เรื่องบริบทขององค์กร ซึ่งต้องนำไปใช้ใช้ในการวางแผน นำไปปฏิบัติ ตรวจสอบและการปรับปรุงการดำเนินงาน และข้อกำหนดเรื่องการวางแผน จะต้องการกำหนด ระบุ และปฏิบัติการกับความเสี่ยงและโอกาส เมื่อวางแผนของระบบการจัดการ ซึ่งครอบคลุมถึงความเสี่ยงจากการชี้บ่งอันตราย ความเสี่ยงจากการประเมินความเสี่ยงและโอกาส และการปฏิบัติให้เป็นไปตามกฎหมายและข้อกำหนดอื่นๆ เป็นต้น
